Jobs in Hot Demand
You know that American jobs have been lost and are now being performed offshore, in other countries. While I am sad that people are losing jobs, this whole movement begs for those people and us, to re-engage our hearts, minds and hands towards work that makes a difference.
Hasn’t America always been known as a land of new opportunities? We let the fruit of our forefather’s work die on the vine when we engage in work that can be shipped offshore and done elsewhere. With each widget that we make we lose the spirit of adventure and discovery that built our great nation. Although this might not be a popular viewpoint in America, I believe that our actions of moving jobs offshore, help fellow human beings and help to build our planet.
There are some jobs however, that cannot be shipped offshore. Yours my friend, is one of them. Mrs. Jones is not going to call Mao Yang of China Plumbers to come out and fix her sink. (I’d like to see the look on her face when she pays that trip charge). Bob at ABC Computers isn’t going to call Berlin Mechanical in Germany to look at his air conditioning unit. And Harry isn’t going to call Juan down in Mexico to give him a quote on lawn maintenance.
You should be proud that not everyone can do your job. Yeah, yeah. We know about Bob’s brother-in-law. But he’s a hack, he’s not a pro like you. I’d like you to think about this and then walk a little bit taller when you engage in work. Be proud of what you do. Try to do what you do a little bit better. And be grateful that outsourced jobs are helping some guy on the other side of the planet feed his kids. We are Americans. We didn’t come here to punch a time clock and punch out of trying to obtain a better life. Make your work better. Make your life better. And make your country better.
While you’re at it, why don’t you encourage young adults and others to enter into your profession?
