Help From Your Peers
As a kid, why did you come inside when your mother called? Why did you clean your room when asked? In school, why did you turn in your homework assignments? At work, why did you turn in your paperwork?
The general answer here is that your mother, teacher and boss held you accountable.
You attended a Microsoft Excel seminar six months ago. But you don’t usually use Excel. You placed the manual on a shelf and forgot about it. Recently, you needed to create a certain kind of spreadsheet. You totally forgot how to. Why? One reason could be that no one held you accountable.
Here’s an idea: get one of your coworkers to help hold you accountable. You don’t want your coworker to act like a boss. You just want him to help you learn. Lets say that you intend to take your fire extinguisher out of the truck and place it by the jobsite every time that you use your brazing rig. Get your coworker to ask you each week how many times you used your brazing rig and how many times you placed the fire extinguisher at the location of work.
